What is Custom or Hybrid Publishing?

Clovercroft Publishing Group is an independent publishing company that helps authors get their books published. We call our process “Custom Publishing” but some in the industry label it as hybrid publishing. Because the author funds the production of their book, they have total creative and editorial control over their book. This is different than getting a traditional publishing contact where the publisher reserves the right to choose the title, design the cover, edit the manuscript as they see fit, and ultimately, own the intellectual rights to your book. But under Custom Publishing, our authors call the shots. They determine the title, approve the cover, have the final say over the editing of their book, and own the intellectual rights to their book. We are here to help guide authors in design and layout for their covers and interiors, which improve their chances in the market.

Our company also has access to 71,000 retail locations and libraries around the world through our working relationship with Ingram Publishing Services, the largest distributor of books in the world. We have access to the largest sales force of any publisher or book distributor in the industry where we pitch our authors' books three times a year. Ingram also provides the ability to sell books through an author's website directly and Ingram packages and ships those books directly to the reader.  They also collect the payment and taxes and the author can make up to 2.5 times more per sale than through bookstores such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Compared to self-publishing companies, our vetted, editorial and design professionals have been working in the publishing field for years. With our expertise, we will help you produce and publish the best possible book to meet your goals. We meet you where you are and help you attain your dream.  In fact, one of the first questions we ask you is what the goal of your book is.  That helps us to shape the publishing and marketing plan to meet that goal.

We meet the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) expected criteria for hybrid publishers.

  • We have defined a mission for our publishing plans.

  • Review and vet all submissions.

  • Commit to truth and transparency in business practices.

  • Provide a negotiable, easy-to-understand contract for each book published.

  • Publish under its own imprint(s) and ISBNs.

  • Publish to industry standards.

  • Ensure editorial, design, and production quality.

  • Pursue and manage a range of publishing rights.

  • Provide distribution services.

  • Demonstrate respectable sales.

  • Pay authors a higher-than-standard royalty.

We are looking for manuscripts that are captivating and candid, and authors who want to tell their story on their own terms.
